Hidden Gems in South Riding You May Have Overlooked

What Does Your Budget Buy in South Riding

I’ve lived in South Riding since 2003, and one of the things I love most is that I’m still discovering new places to enjoy. Whether it’s a peaceful walking trail, a quiet neighborhood park, or a scenic pond at sunset, there are so many little gems tucked throughout the community.
Here are a few of my favorites that you may want to check out.

Take the Scenic Route

If you know me, you know Daisy and I spend a lot of time exploring the trails around South Riding. Instead of sticking to the main roads, we often take the walking paths that wind through neighborhoods, ponds, and wooded areas.
One of my favorite evening walks is around the ponds. They’re especially beautiful as the sun starts to set, and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot turtles sunbathing, blue herons near the water, or even a family of deer quietly making their way through the trees.

Visit Murrey Park

While many people head straight to one of the larger parks, Murrey Park is one of those quieter neighborhood spots that’s easy to overlook. It has open green space, a playground, basketball courts, and plenty of room for kids to run around or for families to enjoy a picnic.
Sometimes it’s nice to escape the crowds and simply enjoy a peaceful afternoon outdoors.

Explore the Ponds

South Riding’s ponds are some of my favorite places to unwind. They’re perfect for an evening stroll, enjoying nature, or simply taking a few minutes to slow down after a busy day.
It’s amazing how many beautiful water views are tucked throughout our neighborhoods, and they’re one of the reasons I never get tired of walking here.

Dulles South Recreation Center

I’ve been a member of the Dulles South Recreation Center for many years, and it’s one of my favorite local amenities. Whether you’re looking to work out, swim indoors, take a fitness class, or simply cool off on a hot summer day, there’s something for everyone.
Many residents don’t realize just how much the recreation center offers. It’s a fantastic resource that’s right in our backyard.

Local Favorites

After spending time outside, treat yourself to one of South Riding’s great local restaurants or coffee shops. Whether you’re grabbing breakfast before a morning walk, meeting friends for lunch, or enjoying dinner on a patio, there are plenty of wonderful local businesses to support.

One of the things I appreciate most is that you don’t have to travel far to enjoy a great meal or meet up with friends.

My Favorite Hidden Gem

As much as I love the trails, ponds, and parks, my favorite hidden gem is actually the community itself.

Over the past 20+ years, I’ve watched South Riding grow while still maintaining the friendly, welcoming atmosphere that made me fall in love with it in the first place. Whether it’s neighbors chatting during an evening walk, kids playing outside, community events, dog owners meeting on the trails, or families gathering at one of the many pools, there’s a genuine sense of connection here. It’s one of the reasons so many people move to South Riding… and why so many choose to stay.
